I AM NOT UNEMPLOYED!!

I am tired of having to get loan to sustain me in school and still always remain in a verge of: an empty stomach, drug addiction, friends that slack around, useless college degree, useless gadgets or even ‘making babies’. I am tired of having to call parents for bail out. I am tired of being unemployed!
For the last two years I have had to watch my friends rise from hundreds-pockets’ to ‘hundred-thousand-pockets’ and still lag behind because of my studies I was keenly warned since childhood not to compromise on. But surely, for how long does this have to last or better yet,
cant I study as I earn?
The experience I have since gained from joining the millions of Kenyans, who throng the city, is tremendous. From selling second-hand clothes, selling movies, freelance writing (which didn’t actually go well with me), photocopying paper sale and even doing a lot of data entry jobs. But I’m not yet there!
I am encouraged by two of my close friends. One of them, Ben(not his real name) is a businessman trading in alcohol drinks( beers and spirits). He started hustling by opening a boutique which unfortunately didn’t do well. He closed down and opened a small alcohol spirits shop. He has since ventured into that business which has grown into:  a bar, a number of spirit shops, a hotel and a grocery shop. Just before I forget, he does wholesale on alcoholic drinks. Guys! He got money!
The other of my friend is a graduate. Having tried to seek for job with fail, he decided to freelance. In less than two years, the guy who once didn’t have a laptop, now lives in a well furnished one-bedroom house and has a swollen bank account. That is not all, he rents another room in the expensive estate of Nairobi where his writers ( I forgot to say he employs) work and he definitely owns laptops.
The old adage goes; every cloud has a silver lining.
But trust me; unemployment is a state of mind!
The above two examples of successful persons doesn’t mean those are the only things you can do. There are a thousand ways to be employed. You get busy and start something from ground up if you want to pull down that silver cloud.
When you know your skills, you may choose to create an opportunity for yourself or better still share your knowledge and partner with others who share same dream. The logic behind partnering is that sometimes you want to do something but you don’t have enough resources. Trust me most youths are complaining of lack of capital, but there you heard me my guy! If you work with others and sustain the will in you, the endless opportunities will open up.
Something else to keep in mind! ‘Initiative knows no lows but only highs!’ Do not be too proud as many Kenyans are to do little things that earn. After all, we will never all sit on that CEO seat! Do something however small; wash cars, earn online, do laundry, prepare food in that neighborhood hotel, knit something up, freelance or start blogging(as  I do) …etc.
It is never too late to do right. Neither is it too early to be unemployed!
So, get underway and start exploring your skills, do something local, search for help online (instead of just facebooking), and create products…Hey! Do something buddy!
